WebMail Notifier

As you all know I’m a Firefox user and there is a great add on I’d like to tell you about. It is called WebMail Notifier and you can download it here. As the name implies, this add on will notify you when you receive a new e-mail message saving you time and making it easier for you to check and track your e-mails.

I, myself, have several e-mail accounts and it can be quite time consuming and a burden trying to track and check them all. With Webmail Notifier this is no longer a chore. I now know immediately when I receive a new message.

To install WebMail Notifier, just click on the Install Now button and then restart Firefox. When it’s finished, you’ll need to set it all up. Here’s how:

1.) Right click on the envelope icon.

Webnotifenv

2.) Choose Preferences.

3.) Choose the e-mail program you use (for example, Gmail, Hotmail, Yahoo!, etc).

4.) Enter your username and your password.

Webnotifpref

5.) You can customize your preferences to show an alert or play a sound when you get a new message. If you get a new message the envelope icon will light up. You can set up WebMail Notifier to check your e-mails at whatever time interval you would like.

6.) Click on the Add button to complete the setup process.

Firefox Plugins and Extensions

Do you want to check your Firefox plugins and extensions to ensure their legitimacy? Are you worried about security or privacy? Do you wonder if you have the correct plugin installed?

Plugins allow you to perform a certain function on demand. Usually it is a specific function not already built into the browser.

To check your plugin and view detailed information about them enter about:plugins into the address bar and press Enter.

The information you receive will consist of the name of the plugin, description, MIME type, related suffixes (file extensions), and whether or not they are enabled or disabled.

Restoring bookmarks from backup in Firefox 3

Here is how you restore your bookmarks in Firefox 3 by importing a bookmark backup file.

Bookmarks -> Organize Bookmarks -> Import and Backup -> Import HTML and then choose from a HTML file

This is the way for HTML files. Firefox also stores bookmarks in JSON format. Here is how you restore your bookmarks in Firefox 3 using the bookmark backup stored in JSON format.

Bookmarks -> Organize Bookmarks -> Import and Backup -> Restore

Restoring bookmarks

Choose from one of the six bookmark backups that Firefox 3 automatically provides for you and you are set.

On a side note I regularly create JSON backups and keep them on my desktop.
