Message Board Stickies

How many of you have visited my forum site www.dumontnjforum.com? If you have not, come on over and become a member of the community. Registration is fast, simple, and free. For those that have been over I’m sure you have run into a sticky message by now.

What are message board stickies?

A sticky comes in handy to help keep important or relevant messages and topics organized and accessible. If there is a message that an administrator or moderator wishes everyone to see he or she can stick it to the top of the page. This action will keep that particular topic at the top so it does not move from that position no matter how many other threads are created or responded to.

If there are a bunch of people using the forum threads can start moving rapidly. Some topics may be pushed to the bottom of the page or off the page altogether.

If there is an important topic or if an administrator has an announcement, he or she can place or “stick” that message at the top of the page instead of allowing it to be pushed up or down by other topics. It is also a good method for posting forum rules or frequently asked questions.

Some forums have more than one sticky at the top of the page.

Registry Cleaner to use or not to use?

For all the years that I have been using computers I’ve used a registry cleaner maybe three times. And, on all of those occasions I never really saw a dramatic difference in system performance afterwards. In my opinion it is simply not worth using a registry cleaner.

There is no reliable way for a third party program to know whether any particular key is invalid, redundant or neither.

Badly designed registry cleaners may not know for sure whether a key is still being used by Windows or what harmful effects removing it may have. This has led to examples of registry cleaners causing departure of functionality and/or system imbalance.

Although the advantages look like they out balance the disadvantages it will only cause harm to the system.

My principal belief is that the best registry cleaner is no registry cleaner at all. Most people simply don’t need it and don’t need to have one.

Some people reach for a registry cleaner when an application is having problems, or when Windows is not functioning as it should. The problem is that these types of situations rarely respond to registry “cleaning” it often requires application or Windows-specific resolution.

Website Customization

Today in this modern world some people seem to get very tense when they do not look entirely respectable. This would also be the case in web designing.

Every person would unquestionably want their web site to look right to the best of their ability. Here are a few things you could look out for when wanting to create a professional looking web page.

Color Schemes and Themes

When designing always opt for matching colors. An example of a matching color would be to have a dark background with visible words and designs. With the dark theme try not to mix too many bright colors into the design. What we should never do is to combine two very different colors such as blue and green. Now, of course, it would depend on the purpose of the web site, but those two colors are too striking for one who wants it to look more professional.

Themes must always accommodate the company, organization. If the web site was made to provide for a baseball company it would be smart to stick to that particular category rather than to revert to a different theme such as food.

Fonts

Should be used in respect to the formalities of the web site. A simple sans-serif font would serve you well in most cases. Unusual cases such as design and art groups might want to use creative designs and fonts. Of course, that’s only if you know what you’re doing.

Finally, we must always try to think of our visitors, envision what they would want to see. The resolutions and file sizes of the pictures must not be too large in terms of size. This is to allow maximum compatibility and cater our visitor’s needs.

So, preparation is something we should always do before undertaking something.

Create a Joomla! page

I have worked on many websites using Joomla!, though my focus and attention has been focused on other responsibilities recently, my memory still serves me well. Regardless, here I’ll show you how to add content to a Joomla! page. Adding content or articles to a web-based CMS like Joomla! is all done online. I do believe there is a desktop application available but I’m not certain. To be able to post articles you will need to login to the user account that is allowed to post articles.

After having Joomla! installed you can begin adding your content. For this  example I’ll assume that your domain is your_domain_name.com. So the Joomla admin panel will be accessible at:

http://your_domain_name.com/administrator

Joomla1

So it’s: Admin Area -> Site -> Control panel -> Add New Article.

Joomla2

Fill in the six fields!

Title: The title of your article
Alias: You can leave this blank it will be automatically filled as per the title you choose.
Section: Choose appropriate section for your site
Category: Choose appropriate category for your site
Published: Yes (If the article is not published, it will not be shown to your visitors. It will remain only as a draft.)
Frontpage: Yes, if you want it on the front/first page of your site.

Add your content. The editor is WYSIWYG. More advanced users can edit the HTML source code directly.

Now in Parameters (Article) you can choose option for Author, Author Alias, Access Level, Created Date and Start Publishing. Choose Apply to post your article.

7 Ways To Increase Your Traffic

Internet. Business. Profit. To fully integrate all of these words into a successful merging you will need traffic. Every article you will find about making your site or company productive will always include the importance of generating traffic. We all should know that traffic is the most essential thing to a successful internet based business. Aside from ensuring that you have a great product to sell and you have your company’s interior organization taken care of it is time to start generating traffic.

If you already have a site and you think that you’re not getting the traffic that you should be getting then its time to review the seven steps. If you are contending in this already very competitive business, you should always try to be a step ahead of your competition, increasing your traffic flow is something you should be concerning yourself with.

Here are seven ways to increase your traffic.

1) Invest in advertising with search engines

Google Adwords and Yahoo Overture provide great advertising schemes that are very popular and assures great traffic. Although with this method to increase your traffic it will cost some money. While some would not want to spend money to increase traffic it would be advantageous to do so because Adwords and Overture are the two methods of increasing your traffic from advertising.

2) Exchange or trade links with other sites

When exchanging links with other sites both of you will benefit from increased traffic. When one site features another sites link, they could provide one another with the traffic one site generates. The efforts are doubly beneficial because both of you are working to generate more traffic for each other. The more links traded with more sites, the more traffic should be reached.

3) Use Viral Marketing

I’ve written about this before

Viral marketing allows you to spread the word about your company and product without any monetary value. This is a marketing method that is quite obscure. Attach your company’s name, product, or link to a certain media such as a podcast, video, or article. With this method people may be interested with your creative thinking and pass on your link to many people.

4) Search and use proper keywords or keyword phrases for your sites content

I’ve written about this before

Search engines look for certain keywords that they show in their results page. Having the right keyword and keyword phrase is a essential in ranking high in search engine results. You could publish your own content or you could employ someone to do it for you.

5) Write articles that can lead traffic to your site

Submit articles to sites that contain the same subject matter as your niche. If you sell flowers write press releases and articles about flowers. Attach your sites description, link and functions at the end of the article.

6) Join forums

I’ve written about this before

Capture a market and show your expertise and credibility. When you find a good foundation for your site people will trust you and your site and will pass it on to people. Traffic will sure enough increase because they know that you can provide what they need.

7) Offer newsletters

If many people know what you are about and your being is shared with many others, you will find loyal traffic that can provide you with more traffic by testimonial. If you arouse the curiosity of your readers they will be pressed to help you with your traffic.

To run the Msimn executable file with the /reg option:

1. Quit Outlook Express.
2. Click Start, and then click Run.
3. In the Open box, type msimn /reg, and then click OK.

To re-register the .eml file type in My Computer:

1. On the desktop, double-click My Computer.
2. On the Tools menu, click Folder Options.
3. Click the File Types tab.
4. Under Registered file types, click EML Outlook Express Mail Message, and then click Advanced.
